Behind the Headlines - 02/17/11 Failed Energy Policy
02/17/11 Failed Energy Policy

Energy prices are on the rise.  Blame it on the lack of a national energy policy.  Well, we do have a policy.  It's dictated by environmental crazies.  Of the 25 countries with the largest known petroleum reserves at least 20 are unstable or unfriendly to the U.S.

We may have enough resources in America to be completely self-sufficient.  But a series of bans, restrictions, moratoriums and prohibitions keep us from using what we have.  Instead, we send hundreds of billions of dollars overseas rather than invest the money here at home.

In 2007, the U.S. House passed a bill authorizing the Justice Department to sue OPEC nations for limiting oil production.  Are you kidding me?  We severely restrict our own oil production but arrogantly believe we have a right to sue other nations for limiting theirs?  This is our energy policy?

This is madness.

We need a comprehensive energy policy that allows us to tap our oil and gas reserves, use clean coal, utilize renewable resources such as hydro, wind and solar and ends the senseless prohibitions on nuclear power.

It’s been more than 30 years since a new nuclear plant has been authorized.  Some nations generate close to 80% of electricity from nuclear power. It's only 20% in the U.S.

It's time to ignore the crazies and adopt a sane energy policy.02/17/11 Failed Energy Policy
