Behind the Headlines Video
Recently, a federal judge ordered tobacco companies to say in product warnings they had previously deceived the public about the dangers of tobacco.
Let's have Washington politicians do the same.
I don't recall President Obama or any one member of Congress campaign on the promise that they won't balance the budget.
Or they'd give us trillion dollar deficits.
Or a national debt bigger than the GDP.
Or middle class wealth would plummet.
Or they'd take extravagant vacations while working Americans go without.
[The Obama family spends about $10 million in taxpayer money on vacations each year. The Obama daughters have been listed on flight manifests as "senior staff" in a likely effort to avoid reimbursement to the U.S. Treasury.]
[The Obamas frequently vacation at this extravagant multi-million dollar estate in a gated community on the exclusive Kailua Beach in Hawaii.]
[Living extravagantly at taxpayer expense is a full-time job by Michelle Obama that is unmatched by any other First Lady in history.]
But this is what they've given us.
2012 is the year of the big lie.
Politicians claim they can continue out-of-control spending and pay for it with minor adjustments here and there (here, here & here). The math doesn't add-up.
Now, they accuse taxpayers of using loopholes. A loophole is when someone evades the law. Tax deductions for mortgage interest or charitable contributions are not loopholes. It's people complying with the law. It's tax policy created by the government. If DC politicians want to change the policy -- then do it. But don't use loaded terms to imply law-abiding citizens are to blame for our nation's fiscal mess.
Only Congress and the President are to blame.
They think the public is stupid. We're not. But many of us believed -- and still believe -- all the lies.
