Behind the Headlines Video
There are three scandals that have arisen out of the Benghazi attack.
First, is the failure of the State Department to heed warnings that the diplomatic post was vulnerable.
Second, is the cover-up. The Obama Administration made false claims the attack spontaneously grew from a peaceful protest over an obscure You Tube video. They promoted a known lie.
[A partial release of White House emails on Benghazi show how talking points were changed.]
Here’s the third scandal. It’s those who -- intentionally or unintentionally – are viewed as complicit in the cover-up.
Retired Ambassador Thomas Pickering and retired Admiral Mike Mullen chaired the Accountability Review Board that investigated the attack. We now know the ARB didn’t interview many key witnesses. Or key decision-makers. For example, they never questioned Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Were they lazy, incompetent or part of the cover-up?
Now this. Ben Sherwood is the president of ABC News. His sister is Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, a special assistant to the President on national security affairs. CBS News President is David Rhodes. His brother, Ben Rhodes, is the Deputy National Security Advisor who was involved in 12 rewrites of the Benghazi talking points. Neither news organization disclosed potential conflicts of interest. Why would anyone trust network news reporting?
[The potential news bias is not limited to just the ABC and CBS network news operations. Virginia Moseley became the Deputy Chief of CNN's Washington, DC bureau last November. Prior to that change she was a senior producer for ABC News in Washington, DC. Her husband is Tom Nides who, until recently, was the Deputy Secretary of State to Hillary Clinton.]
[Over at NBC, the network news operation reportedly spiked a story that reported Benghazi whistle blower Gregory Hicks is a Democrat, a prominent supporter of Barack Obama, and had voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012 elections. These facts contradict the narrative that Hicks is an anti-Obama partisan.]
Only 28% of Americans – a near historic low – view the federal government favorably.
Distrust of the media is at a record high of 60%.
The Benghazi scandal shows us why this is the case.
